On your next trip to Bandon, consider visiting the Washed Ashore Gallery–Art to Save the Sea, located at 250 1st St. SW.  This non-profit organization hosts exhibits, both in Bandon and elsewhere, made of trash found on shore.  Most of it is made of plastic.  Their website includes information about exhibits at the Smithsonian, the New York Aquarium, and a number of other locations.  The interior of the Bandon building includes an assortment of small businesses, including a gift and coffee shop.  The exhibits, many of them quite large, are on display both inside and outside the facility.

The sculptures are simultaneously intricate, beautiful, and alarming.  Most viewers will be dismayed by the amount of plastic debris that can be found in the ocean and distressed by the damage it is known to be causing.  Anne
